Georgia softball announces 2012 schedule

The Georgia softball program and head coach Lu Harris-Champer announced their 2012 schedule on Wednesday, reads the lead of the Red & Black story. The team will play a 56-game season including 36 contests at home.

Missouri accepted into the SEC 

The University of Missouri has joined the Southeastern Conference, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Along with the addition of Texas A&M, the SEC now consists of 14 teams. What will this mean for Georgia?

UGA’s mens basketball team signs three new players

Mark Fox, head coach of Georgia’s basketball team, signed three Atlanta-area prospects on the first day of signing, reports Online Athens. Kenny Gains, Charles Mann and Brandon Morris have all signed letters of intent.

UGA equestrian team beats South Carolina

The bulldogs equestrian team placed a score of 11-9 against South Carolina, a team that is currently ranked No. 4 — reports the Red & Black. Megan Hawkins and Carly Anthony both had strong performances that helped earn Georgia’s win.

Georgia Linebacker faces community service

Cornelius Washington, Georgia’s outside linebacker will remain on probation until Oct. 14, 2012 for his charge with a DUI and speeding offense, reports the Red & Black. Washington must serve 65 hours of community service and complete a University or court approved Alcohol/Education program as part of his punishment.

Georgia volleyball welcomes back alumni 

The University of Georgia Volleyball has jumped for new ideas and will be hosting its first alumni weekend during its game against Arkansas, reports The Red & Black. Former Georgia volleyball players are invited to watch the 2011 team and learn about their experiences.

Star Soccer forward’s love for the sport

Alexa Newfield is Georgia’s star soccer player who scored 15 goals as a sophomore, reports the Red & Black. Her upbringing, family history and personality all help explain her love for soccer.

Georgia in minority for special teams coaches

Georgia is in the minority of programs that don’t employ a special teams coordinator, reports The Athens Banner-Herald.Eighty-nine of the 120 Football Bowl Subdivision programs have an assistant on staff with that title and UGA is not one of them.

Dawgs anticipate making to the SEC

The Georgia Bulldawgs haven’t been to the southeastern conference since 2005; however, with Saturday’s win against Florida, they are well on there way. The Bulldogs will have to do their part by taking care of business the next two weeks against No. 25 Auburn on Nov. 12 and woeful Kentucky on Nov. 19, reports The Athens Banner-Herald dog bytes.

Georgia’s Jarvis Jones makes the most out of life

Jones didn’t want to play football in high school. He thought of himself as a basketball player — and was an exceptional one indeed, reports the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. This 6’3 outside linebacker eventually finds a home with the Bulldawgs.

UGA HEROs held a fundraiser to help youth in Savannah attend Camp High Five, a summer program designed for kids affected by HIV/AIDS. Former UGA quarterback David Greene was the special guest, the WSAV website reports.

Dawgs have 3 in updated ESPNU 150
ESPN reports that UGA is in the mix for the most desired commitments in the country, including the school’s top commits, John Theus of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jonathan Taylor of Millen, Ga.

UGA Mark Richt sings ‘Happy Birthday’ to football recruit
