UGA’s Crowell earns SEC weekly honors
University of Georgia running back Isaiah Crowell has been awarded the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, reports The Gainesville Times.

Todd Grantham has put the Bite Back in the Bulldog Defense, reads a Bleacher Report headline. Grantham’s work with the team has resulted in a “moderate growth” in defensive performance.

Richt educates UGA fans on how to disrupt MSU’s offense
We don’t want them to communicate well.  We want them to have trouble hearing each other and we want offensive lineman to jump offsides,” said Mark Richt when addressing the fans on MrSEC.com.

MSU wants to find balance in ground game

Equestrian Gears Up for 2011 Season

According to georgiadogs.com, the Georgia equestrian team is gearing up for this season through challenging puzzles, relay races, and adapted version of Simon Says. All of these activities were part of the team’s annual Team Bonding Day, aimed at encouraging newcomers and veterans alike to get to know one another.

‘Time management’ the toughest part for Georgia’s Isaiah Crowell

According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, when Isaiah Crowell blew off a team of reporters because he forgot to show up for a scheduled press conference, the mistake did not please his coaches. Since arriving on UGA’s campus, Crowell has struggled with managing all of the responsibilities that come with football and school.

Diaz, son fall into court routine

UGA tennis player Eric Diaz and his father, head coach Manual Diaz, have maintained a distinct difference in their relationship on and off the court. The Red and Black reports that Diaz stressed the fact that on the court, his son is just “another guy and he gets treated no differently from anyone else.”

Preparation Winding Down for 2011 Season Opener

Georgiadogs.com reports that this Saturday’s Chik-Fil-A Kickoff against Boise State will be the Bulldogs first time opening against a top-five team since 1965. For Coach Mark Richt, this season’s opener has “a little more juice added to it.”

UGA Day Scheduled for Aug. 27 in Lithonia

The University of Georgia Athletic Association is teaming up with the DeKalb County School System to bring “UGA Day—Learn, Play, Excel” to life. Head men’s basketball coach Mark Fox and head women’s basketball coach Andy Landers will help elementary students learn the value of sports participation while promoting what UGA’s Athletic Association has to offer.  UGA hopes to not only impact the community through presentations on education, leadership, and anti-bullying, but to also recruit students who may attend UGA in the future.

Georgia athletics: McGarity reflects on first year as Georgia’s AD

Fewer arrests, mentoring sessions, and a new nutrition program. These are just a few of the big changes that University of Georgia athletics director, Greg McGarity, implemented in his first year on the job. Thanks to McGarity, the Bulldogs’ season opener in Atlanta will be in the national spotlight.

Uniforms have fans seeing red, but Georgia players rave

When Boise State faces the Bulldogs in Atlanta, they’ll be surrounded by a sea of red. The new Georgia football uniforms deviate from the traditional look, featuring red jerseys, red pants, and white helmets. Although the fans may be upset by the new changes, the players couldn’t be happier. “It’s 2011. You know, we’ve gotta have a little swag,” junior receiver Tavarres King said.

Fans take opposing views on new Photo Day rule

For the first time, the Georgia athletic association prohibited fans from bringing outside items to Picture Day. The association cited “public issues surrounding student athlete autographs across the country” as the reason for the new policy. Although some fans agreed that the new rule would deter people from hoarding away autographed items to sell later, some fans wished they could have added to their personal collections.

New volleyball coach Stemke ‘amazing’

Georgia head volleyball coach, Lizzy Stemke, has big plans for this season. Stemke will focus on setting a foundation for the volleyball program, so that the team may start competing at a national level. The team has hopes to finish the SEC on top. Redshirt sophomore Kathleen Luft referred to Stemke as “an amazing coach.”

Men’s tennis ‘going for the whole thing’ this year

There’s only one thing on the minds of the Georgia men’s tennis team: winning the national championship. The team worked out all summer, engaging in team drills and practices. Seniors took on new leadership roles by scheduling practices, as the coaches were not allowed to lead practices before the season officially started.
